Faith and Film Series at the Grand

I am so puzzled by their poster for this film series:

I mean, it’s put on by Immanuel and Urban Grace, but seriously, it looks like a film series critiquing religion, and indeed, Earth, the second film, is a pretty damning (Hindu-centric) look at what religion wrought in India during partition. Babette’s Feast, on the other hand, is quite about religion, about food as sacrament. Crimes and Misdemeanors, directed by Woody Allen (who is most assuredly an atheist) is about a guy who hires a hit man to kill his wife, then panics, suddenly thinking God is watching him. It’s a comedy!

But I think if you’re going to do a series on faith and film, these are odd films for two churches to choose.

And even weirder to make a poster of the sort that… <gasp> an atheist would have made.

Maybe next time they could ask us what we think, and if we like it, they’ll know they were off the mark.
