The state of Washington is in the process of drafting new rules which will govern how public space is used. This will cover such things as nativity scenes and other religious or non-religious displays. Personally, I think public spaces should have no displays of any kind. Government areas are for all the people, and as such should not show preference to any group. You may think differently, so here’s your chance to add your say to the process.
General Administration is responsible for care, custody and control of the Capitol Campus. General Administration is charged with balancing the functional requirements of state government operations with public access and the long-term preservation needs of the campus properties.
The objective of this rule-making effort is to clarify policy regarding how General Administration will consider appropriate time, place and manner criteria in evaluating and approving requests for use of the public areas of the Capitol Campus.
It is anticipated that this rule-making will amend Chapter 236-12 State capitol grounds traffic and parking regulations and establish a new chapter under Title 236 WAC General Administration, regarding use of the public areas of the Capitol Campus.
