Oh, Free Republic…

The wonderful comments of the fine, upstanding people on Free Republic about the Olympia plaque eloquently demonstrate how damaging hate speech can be, through reasoned and rational argument (I’m filing this under “people who miss the point”):

Hey, get you atheist propoganda outta my Christmas! They already have two days for them, April 1 and May 1. — Baladas

Excuse me, I thought the reason for holiday displays was to help people celebrate, not to try to ruin people’s good time with propaganda. I don’t see why atheists are entitled to a religious display, anyway. What rotten people. — I still care

The world is chockabloc with frustrated, unhappy, purposeless people who simply have no other pleasure than to rain on someone else’s parade. — Jack Hammer

Boy, you said a mouthful, brother. I’m more and more convinced that this malady is the cause of many of our problems, and not coincidentally many liberals are this way. —thecabal

Actually you can add April 15th to the Atheists “holy days”. And to the Atheists, December 25th is a THURSDAY… GET YOUR A** to WORK!!! — gwilhelm56

Evil never sleeps, evil always attacks. If these people were actually what they purport to be they would be merely amused by religion if they thought of it at all. — TalBlack

When I die, if there is no God, no big deal really. But that poor atheist, when they find out they were wrong. hoo-boy Eternity is such a very long time, ya know? — proudmilitarymrs

Cthulhu doesn’t have a sign? These moonbat officials are lining up for lunch, and they’re on the menu. — atomic conspiracy

How sad that they even call it a “holiday tree”. I can’t WAIT to see what they’re up against when they start the campaign to neutralize ramadan – or whatever the biggest “holy” day is for that bunch. — JudyinCanada

I know the fools day one but what is May 1st? Inquiring minds want to know. — blueyon

May 1st is MayDay; an international holiday for godless totalitarian Commies everywhere. — Incorrigible

The sign reads, “Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.” What? No Hate Crime Laws in Washington? Surely this is hate speech? Oh sorrry I forgt. Its okay to hate Christians and real Americans. Just not homo’s athiest, socialist and islamofacist… — SECURE AMERICA

What on Earth do you give an Atheist for ‘Freedom from Religion’ day? – A swift kick in the butt day? — libertarian27

An atheist on a blog berated me by saying “What would happen if atheists put up a display?”. Now we know what would happen. It would be bitter and petty. — AppyPappy

Someone should change “Religion” to “Islam” and see what happens to the sign. — AppyPappy

Atheists don’t believe in “establishment claus(e)”. The same government that cannot establish a State religion, cannot OPPOSE religion EITHER. Damned bigots. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof Atheist Supremacists (including those in the ACLU) need to STFU about Christmas already.  Excuse me but it is NOT an equal resonse to a nativity scene. It is an editorial that seeks to establish ATHEISM as the State Religion. It is intolerant of all other faiths. If a cross were to be placed that said “All of you non-Christians are going to Hell” then they might have a case. That is not the message at all. The nativity brings no message against any other faith. Even a total faith in the no god god. — weegee

A symbol for something they believe does not exist? If your a freakin’ bitter nut case with no life…it makes perfect sense. Sucks to be them is all I can say! — ladyvet
