Take a Stand for Free Speech


The American Humanist Association is organizing group viewings of Bill Maher’s movie “Religulous.” They’re supporting this film because worldwide, efforts are being made to limit the right of people to criticize or question religion. Laws are being proposed to prohibit “religious defamation,” a term which could eventually include, not just criticism, but questioning religion in any way.

In the movie, Maher ridicules some extremes of organized religion. It’s important to defend the freedom of expression — including the freedom to critique religion. Social satire has an important role, and Americans should question of dogmas and superstition in all its forms.
