It provides hands-on training that will help your neighbors and community in a disaster, before emergency reponders arrive.

FEMA now recommends that citizens be prepared to survive for 7 to 10 days following a disaster. The classes take place in the evenings, and are free. The training includes light search and rescue, first aid, fire prevention and safety, shutting off utilities, and more. 

Contact Ute Weber at the Tacoma Fire Department at (253) 594-7980, or sign up online. The next class will probably be in February. If you can’t do CERT, ask Ute about Map Your Neighborhood training.
