It&#8217;s a 7-day course that provides hands-on training to teach you how to help your neighbors and community in a disaster, before emergency reponders arrive. FEMA now recommends that citizens be prepared to survive for 7 to 10 days following a major disaster. The classes take place in the evenings twice a week and one Saturday. They cover light search and rescue, first aid, fire prevention and safety, shutting off utilities, and more. <span class="text_11px"><span style="color: #be540d"><span style="color: #000000">Contact </span></span></span><span class="text_11px"><span style="color: #be540d"><span style="color: #000000">Ute Weber at </span></span></span><span class="text_11px"><span style="color: #be540d"><span style="color: #000000">the Tacoma Fire Department, or </span></span></span><a href="http://www.cityoftacoma.org/Page.aspx?hid=7781" target="_blank">sign up online</a>.</p>
